26-Week Acoustic Worship Guitar Curriculum

This course equips beginner students to build a strong foundation on acoustic guitar while learning how to use their instrument for worship and songwriting. Over 26 weeks, students will gain the technical skills, confidence, and spiritual understanding needed to play and lead in a worship setting.

Weeks 1–13:

• Guitar basics: tuning, hand positioning, and finger strength exercises

• Learning “G” shape chords (C, G, D, Em, Am, Bm, Gsus, G/A)

• Smooth chord transitions & simple strumming patterns

• Reading chord charts & playing 2–3 chord worship songs

• Introduction to music theory (notation, G major scale)

• Playing common worship progressions in G

• Songwriting basics: create your first worship song in G

Weeks 14–26:

• Expanding into “C” shape chords (C, G, Dm, F, A, B) plus additional chords (F#m, E, C#m)

• Playing the C major scale & common worship progressions in C

• Refining chord transitions & strumming techniques

• Intermediate worship songs with 3–4 chords

• Songwriting Part 2: create your own song in C

• Preparing for worship team involvement: auditioning & playing with others
