Read below before attempting the video...

In a lip trill, there are actually Two sounds going on at once. Go from an “s” to a “z” to help feel what it should feel like

Where does your tongue sit when you do a lip trill?

  • Tongue either down on behind your lower teeth or up behind your front two teeth. Your goal is to make a bright forward sound. Almost like a “Waah”

In this video, you are going to specifically place your tongue behind your front two teeth first then alternate to the bottom of your front.

At first, you might force your tongue, just to get it started. But eventually, you need to relax while doing this.

There should be no air escaping through your nose. As you do the lip trill close your nose. If your lip trill stops. You are letting air escape through your nose.

Make a soft “K” sound slowly and it will raise that soft palate

Hints.. if you are having trouble.

Hint: if you are struggling with the lip trills. Place your hands on either side of your cheeks while you are doing it.

Why do it make lip trills easier? Because it narrows the vocal track. That means the soft palate is up and you don’t have excess width.

So without holding your cheeks just push your cheeks against your teeth. Then try to make the sound the center.

You need Resonante SPACE. Which includes vowel modification. So when you do lip trips you need to also modify the space (create the space) and vowel modification while you are doing them.
